WOR and Rep. King Stand Up For America Against Holding the 9/11 Terror Trials in NYC

New York -- WOR710 News Talk Radio personalities John Gambling and Steve Malzberg presented the station's "Stand Up For America" petition to Congressman Peter King (R-NY) today at New York's Foley Square.  Over 25,000 listeners signed the petition which was the centerpiece on a special broadcast hosted by both Gambling and Malzberg last month who, as stated in the entreaty, "believe our country is moving in the wrong direction."  

Posted on the WOR website, "Stand Up For America," says Malzberg, has "given our listeners an opportunity over the months and weeks to be heard."  It states that the undersigned believe that the way to economic recovery is though the focus and promotion of capitalism and a free market.  "Our government should seek to reward entrepreneurs, job-creators, and those that foster prosperity in our country, as their success will help stimulate the return of a stronger American economy," it reads.  However, a key element of the petition is its backlash against the Obama administration's push to hold the 9/11 terror trials in NYC.  “Many of us take great offense at the idea of the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed taking place at the Federal Courthouse in New York City,” it asserts.

Standing less than a block away from the civilian courthouse in which the 9/11 attackers could face trial, King declared that "it was the most irresponsible decision ever made by any President when President Obama and his administration said that they were going to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the 9/11 terrorists right here in this federal court."  

"They made this decision without even talking to the police commissioner, without talking to the mayor, without talking to the federal martials, without talking anyone in federal law enforcements at all," King continued.  

"We found out as recently as yesterday from [White House senior advisor] David Alexrod that no decision has been made, that New York is still a possibly --this is totally unacceptable," Malzberg declared.  According to the petition, “a trial of the magnitude required for the 9/11 terrorist actions committed against our country is too large for the streets of Manhattan to accommodate from a security perspective.”   In effect, it states that the terror case would hinder “the government's responsibility to foster prosperity and to aid in the return of a stronger American economy.” 

Copies of the petition will be delivered to President Obama as well as Attorney General Eric Holder.  "Hopefully, we'll make a little bit of impact with those folks down in Washington," said Gambling at the conference.
