9:00 a.m. - 9:40 a.m. - meet with Tom Garguilio, his father Andy and their family to congratulate the father & son coaching team on their 250 basketball victories at Bethpage High School. Also attending was Admiral Philip Greene the Superintendent at the Merchant Marine Academy. (Tom's son is an outstanding student at the Academy.)
9:45 a.m. - 9:55 a.m. - phone interview with John Gambling (WOR Radio).
2:05 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. - tape interview from home with Channel 12 on illegal immigration and Syria
Monday, August 22nd
6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. - to WOR Radio (710 am) studio at 111 Broadway to guest host the John Gambling Show. Guests included Ray Kelly, Ed Mangano & Bruce Beck. Show seemed to go well. I enjoyed it.
Tuesday, August 23rd
8:50 a.m. – 8:59 a.m. - phone interview with Curtis Sliwa (930 am) on Libya
Approx. 2:00 p.m. – 2:15 p.m. - call Kevin Fogarty in D.C. office on routine business. He tells me that the Cannon House Office building had just shook and photos, etc. had fallen off the wall. About a minute later I felt the district office shake slightly for about 10 seconds. I told the staff what Kevin had said about D.C. and we presumed it was an earthquake. People came out on the streets looking toward the train station, probably assuming the shaking came from the train. Just then the television station reported the D.C. quake.
4:01 p.m. - 4:05 p.m. - live phone interview on Channel 12 on earthquake.
7:00 p.m. – 9:50 p.m. - with Rosemary to dinner with Ed Koch at Gotham Bar and Grill in Manhattan. Terrific evening. Outstanding conversation.

Wednesday, August 24th
9:00 a.m. – 9:50 a.m. – speak at homeland security seminar at Dowling College hosted by former NCPD Commissioner Larry Mulvey – good turnout.
12:10 p.m. -12:30 p.m. – tape interview in district office with David Ushery (WNBC-TV) for 9/11 special.
12:35 p.m. – 12:50 p.m. – tape interview with Channel 12 on “Muslim bias” report by NYCLU.
Thursday, August 25th
6:00 p.m. - 9:35 p.m. - with Rosemary to NYC Fire Museum in lower Manhattan to attend National Geographic screening of George W. Bush/9/11 interview. Terrific interview. Demonstrates the courage and grit of President Bush.

Friday, August 25th
9:00 a.m. - 10:05 a.m. - to FDNY retiree breakfast at Lindenhurst Diner in Lindenhurst. As always, great camaraderie.
1:15 p.m. - 1:45 p.m. - conference call with GOP leaders. Discuss business regulations which are hurting economy.
Saturday, August 27th
7:15 a.m. - 7:25 a.m. - to Fox & Friends in Manhattan. Discuss potential impact of Hurricane Irene on NYC and LI. (Watch here)
3:00 p.m. - 3:15 p.m. - phone interview with BBC radio on Irene.
3:30 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. - conference call with FEMA Director Craig Fugate on Irene. Could be disastrous.
Sunday, August 28th
9:00 a.m. - Hurricane almost over. Tree down on my block but no property damage. Lost power at 4 a.m.
9:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - tour district in police vehicle. Many trees down. Severe flooding. Lot of power outages. Visit Wantagh and Seaford Fire Departments.

10:56 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. - phone call from DHS Secretary Napolitano. Tell her what I've seen. Very cordial and cooperative.
