Pete King's Thoughts & Whereabouts: 8/13 - 8/16

August 13, 2010
10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. - to WABC radio studio at 2 Penn Plaza (next to Madison Square Garden) to co-host the Mark Simone show. Mark is a great guy and the show seemed to go well. I was able to get good guests - - Ray Kelly, Glenn Thrush, Rabbi Potasnik, Dick Grasso and Rosemary Cain. The two hours went a lot faster than I thought it would. (Watch here)

2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - meet with John Wilson, GOP candidate for Assembly in district which covers Sunnyside, Queens where I grew up. Seems like a good guy - will try to help him. If you want to know how to contribute to John's campaign visit his website www.johnkwilson2010.com.

4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - meet in district with representatives of Armenian-American community.

7:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m. – to Lorenzo’s Cabaret in Hilton Hotel in Staten Island where my good friend Danny Aiello invited me to his concert. Danny is, of course, a terrific actor. Several years ago he took up singing in a very serious way. The room was packed and Danny gave a terrific performance. The audience was with him all the way. Besides his singing talent Danny is really able to connect. Rosemary and I were able to spend time with Danny before and after the show and the conversation got to politics. This was easy for me because Danny and I are on the same page politically. He was also good enough to introduce me during his act, saying good things about my job in Congress.

Just before the show began, Kevin Fogarty called to tell me what President Obama was going to say that evening about the WTC Mosque which was clearly an endorsement of the Mosque. I gave Kevin a statement saying that the President is wrong and that it is insensitive to put the Mosque in that location. Did phone interview with WCBS radio (before the show) and AP radio (after the show).

Danny and I agreed to get together soon for dinner.

9:25 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – phone interview with Religion on the Line – WABC Radio

10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. – boxing session with Chris Cardona at Bellmore Kickboxing Academy

12:05 p.m. – 12:15 p.m. – phone conversation with Thomas Maier of Newsday informing me that Denis Dillon, the former Nassau D.A., died today. Denis was an old friend. He and I worked very closely, when he was D.A. and I was Comptroller, on a number of issues – particularly Northern Ireland and abortion. Tremendous integrity. Self-deprecating humor. R.I.P.
