Pete King's Thoughts & Whereabouts: 12/30 - 1/3
Thursday, December 30, 2010
12:45 p.m. - 12:55 p.m. - to Village Video to tape segment for this evening's Fox News Special Report on President's recess appointment of James Cole as Deputy Attorney General. I strongly oppose Cole who has diminished the 9/11 attacks by comparing them to drug deals and organized crime. Unlike Cole, I do believe that the Justice Department should be waging a war against Islamic terrorism, not treating it the same as ordinary crime.
7:00 p.m. - 8:45 p.m. - to Island Park with Rosemary and Erin to attend wake of Armand D'Amato, Sr. the father of Al & Armand D'Amato. Mr. D'Amato, who lived to the age of 97, was always a gentleman and lived a full life.
Friday, December 31st
9:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. - attend funeral mass with Rosemary and Sean for Mr. D'Amato at Sacred Heart Church in Island Park. Large turnout, very moving service. As with last night's wake there are many faces from Nassau County's political past.
2:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. - watch Notre Dame beat Miami: 33-17 in Sun Bowl. Notre Dame looked great in first half, running away to a 27-0 lead, then ran out the clock in the second half. Great way to end the year! Any time Notre Dame beats Miami, all is well with the world.

Happy New Year!
1:15 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - visit old friend Bill Thomas at his home in Hicksville. Bill had a long career with the FDNY as has volunteered in a number of my campaigns. He just got out of the hospital after 7 months and, all things considered, looks very good. He has a lot of rehab ahead of him.
4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. - with Rosemary to see "The King's Speech" at Raceway Theatre in Westbury. Absolutely fantastic movie. Gripping and inspiring story of King George VI's struggle to overcome his stammer.
During the last few weeks I've had a chance to do some reading and I finished "Decision Points" by George W. Bush. "Obama's Wars" by Bob Woodward and "Extreme Measures" a novel about terrorism by Vine Flynn. "Decision Points" was great and reinforces my belief that history will treat President Bush 43 very well.
"Obama's Wars" was interesting but repetitive. Dealing with President Obama's decision in 2009 to expand the Afghanistan war (which I supported), it demonstrates the confusion in the Obama administration and what appears to be a severe disconnect between the President and his top military leaders.
"Extreme Measures" is a bit over-rated but it emphasizes the deadly threat we face from Islamic terrorism as Flynn details a massive attack by Al Qaeda in Washington D.C.
Sunday, January 2nd
10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. - read Sunday newspapers including New York Times editorial attacking my upcoming hearings on Muslim radicalization. Being attacked by the Times convinces me that I am right. Going back 50 years when the Times supported Castro (who "got his job through the New York Times) through the present when the Times disgracefully discloses vital national security secrets in times of war, I have nothing but contempt for this left-wing propaganda sheet. I strongly believe their publisher and editors should have been indicted under the Espionage Act for disclosing the SWIFT program in 2006. Read editorial here)
Monday, January 3rd
2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Delta Shuttle with Rosemary from LaGuardia to Washington, DC.
8:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m. - On O'Reilly Factor from Fox's Washington DC studio. Topics: Healthcare repeal, illegal immigration and Muslim radicalization hearings. (Watch here)
Today Ed Koch wrote a great column online supporting my radicalization hearings. I urge you to read it by clicking here.
