80 members of the elite FDNY-NYPD Search and Rescue team were waiting all day at Stewart AFB to fly to Haiti. They were being delayed by a backlog at Haiti's airport at Port-au-Prince. My staff and I have been in contact all day with FEMA and the Defense Dept. to get updates. We're being assured everything is being done to expedite the flights. Unit leader Joe Downey of the FDNY, who is at Stewart AFB with his team, tells me they have to arrive in the next 48 hours to have any real impact.
9:00 p.m. - 9:25 p.m. - phone interview on WABC radion with Charlie Gasparino the Wall Street expert and author of The Sellout. Focused on terrorism and economy.
Saturday, January 16th
7:40 a.m. - get phone call at home that military planes (C-171) are in the air and the FDNY-NYPD will be arriving in Haiti in the next several hours. Great news. I've seen these guys in action. They will do a terrific job. Our prayers must be for the people of Haiti.
12:15 p.m. - 12:25 p.m. - to Village Video for Fox News TV interview with Brian Wilson on terrorism and homeland security.
Sunday, January 17th
8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. - boxing at Bellmore kickboxing.
11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. - to Island Park Fire Department to present American flag.
12:00 noon - 1:00 p.m. - to Valley Stream American Legion Hall for Bruce Blakeman's announcement of U.S. Senate candidacy against Gillibrand. (See Video)
