NASSAU GOP SUPPORTERS CHEER “KING FOR PRESIDENT”
May 18, 2011
Trump and Huckabee may be out as Presidential candidates but some eleven hundred members of the Nassau County Republican Committee used the occasion of their annual Salute to American Armed Forces to cheer on the idea that Congressman Peter King should consider being their favorite son for President of the United States.
Nassau County Republican Committee Chairman Joseph Mondello told the assembly, “If he were to run I would support him. Voters know that Pete King respects them, doesn’t speak from a pollster’s cue card and understands the twin threats facing this nation: the debt and the ongoing war on terror.”
Chairman Mondello observed, “Pete has been pilloried by the liberal press because he doesn’t play by their rules of political correctness. He sees a threat, he speaks to it and whether you agree with his position or not, he is honest, candid and direct.”
The Republican leader stated that Congressman King has become a symbol of Republican integrity and intellectual strength in an environment where his candor and honesty have defined him with every voter who watched his House Committee on Homeland Security at work this spring.
“Were he to run I would support him and based on the sustained applause in this room when his name was mentioned as a favorite son for President I believe the entire Nassau County Republican organization would support him as well. At a time when the nation is in peril, when our economy is at risk and when the voter needs to see genuine leadership in their elected officials Pete King represents the inherent strength of our Republican Party.”
