The head of the Federal Protective Service warned today that a potential 20-year legal fight to deal with Khalid Shaikh Mohammed and his henchmen would be too much for his agency.

Responding to questions from Long Island Rep. Pete King, Federal Protective Service Director Gary Schenkel asserted his agency would need bolstering.

“If they (the trials) are protracted, to the period that we are being told now, up to 20 years, and if they run simultaneous trials in locations, whether it be New York or other locations,.it would put a definite strain on the Federal Protective Service to accomplish its primary mission,” Schenkel said.

“We would be strained after the initial two weeks,” he added.

King, the ranking Republican on the Homeland Security Committee was probably the first and most vocal critic of holding the trials in Manhattan.
